What is ECT?

ECT stands for ElectroConvulsive Therapy, also called electroshock or shock therapy. It is also referred to as EST, more commonly in the UK. ECT involves the application of electrical stimulation to the brain using two electrodes attached to the scalp, resulting in a seizure. It is used to treat depression and other psychiatric disorders.
