If you visit ect.org next year, expect that I’ll be promoting Linda Andre’s new book! And you’d better plan on buying.
Her book was purchased this week by a major publisher!
This book will shed light on an industry that has fed on a plague of self deception, of defensiveness, and of outright lies. Might as well put the shock industry on official notice: the chipping away at your ivory wall continues. This time, Ms. Linda Andre will be wielding a jackhammer.
I confess I’ve had a peek, and the writing is stunning. That’s not a surprise to me and won’t be to anyone who knows Linda’s skills. It may be a surprise to the “gang” (Sackeim, Ricky and friends), who won’t be able to conceive that she’s far more articulate than they are.
This book will illuminate the practices of an industry the way that my favorite book “And The Band Played On” by Randy Shilts did regarding the AIDs epidemic and the Reagan Administration’s failure to react. In a year’s time, Shilt’s book will have to accept its role as “second-favorite” book.

I have watched my my 50 year daughter who has gone through ect for near 2 years. What a crock!!!!!!! She is worse now than before she started treatment. All I can say is the Drs. involved in this have “fried her brain” I think it is shameful they continue to do this to her while convincing her that she needs this.

i have read your accounts of treatments.
i had approximately 25 shock treatments at the
HEALTH SCIENCES CENTER here in winnipeg manitoba canada
around 1989.
I still struggle with the emotions and pain of it all.
The Doctor at that time Dr. Samia Barakat still works
at H.S.C. She is now the director.
I am trying to revoke her license. What are my chances?

Congrats! I met you a long time ago at a copy center (on Third Ave.?), and saw what you were printing, and told you I had had ECT about 1962. I signed-up for your newsletter and sent you contributions. I remember when you turned-down “60 Minutes” because (I think) you were misrepresented in Atlantic Magazine?
In any case, you deserve your hard-won publication.
I don’t know how much memory I lost from 15 ECT sessions, and how much from shooting-up speed and heroin (clean now since 1966).

i came to this site because i was looking for possible side effects of demenitia from ect treatments. i can not remember the number of treatments or exactly when i had them due to my memory loss. but what i do remember is that the treatments were numerous and for an extended period of time.
i did have testing done that they stated that i had no efffects from the ects. but then i started having periods of cataplexy. i then sought treatment from a neurosurgeon. with a mri taken and his reading of it, he saw spots on it that did not indicate multiple sclicous,which was our concern. what he stated was that the spots and the way that they were randomly located were probably due to the ect treatments.
i have recently become concerned about the ect damage increasing the chances of early onset of alzheimers. is there any information out on this subject
I was 16 when my mother had this done to me.I was shy and picked on and did not want to go to school. I had 1 office visit then ended up in psych ward. Had no idea what was to happen till it did. It almost ruined my life and I hated my mom on the way to her grave. I had anxiety issues and I thought this guy was going to talk to me.this happenen feb 1965
