The choices to the left simply determine the look of the sim, whether he's near or far, and how you want him to behave. In the middle, you choose the sex, adult or child, body type, and skin color. Make sure male, adult, light and fat are selected.

You've got four drop-down menus on the right side of the screen that are the most important things: Bodies and Heads, which are the meshes that determine the shapes of your skins; and Body Textures and Head Textures, which are your bmp files that fit over the meshes and make the individual.

First, choose your Homer head and body in the two lower categories. If you've put them in the textures folder in Sim Show, they should be right there. You'll notice the resulting Sim looks pretty strange. (Note: your default meshes may be different than mine)

Poor Homer has the body type of a guy in shorts and the head of Mr. Roman Crew. Not quite right. We need to choose the body and head for Homer.

And there's our Homer!

Here's another example of putting the wrong head and body textures with the wrong meshes. You'll see that the body mesh is for a floor-length dress, but the texture (bmp file) is of a short nightie. Looks pretty freaky, as does her poor head....not quite my idea of the perfect Ms. Sim. But who knows? Maybe she's your dream girl.

That's really all there is to it. (haha) It's complicated - at first. But once you get the basic CMX files fixed and into your game, you'll find that adding new skins is a piece of cake. And if your Sim Show crashes on you? Look at your cmx file and the names within, compare them to the skn files. They must match exactly, but without the .skn extension when listed in the cmx file.

One more thing....even though the Sim Show says import into game, it doesn't work like you'd think. It simply copies the bmp texture files into your sims game, but not the mesh files. You still MUST put copies of the cmx and skn files into your skin folder - MANUALLY! Don't forget this step.

Whew! Now go make some skins!

Here are the files I have in my game currently....the cmx files all work and match up with the skin files. Just download, unstuff and put into your Sim Show/Sims game. (If I were you, I would first test everything out via Sim Show - what I love best about it is that it crashes quickly and cleanly if I've screwed up somewhere. So much nicer than crashing my Sims game)
