Theodicy

1. The philosophical attempt to defend God’s goodness and providence against the actual or possible doubts that arise on account of evil in the world. 2. In rationalist divisions of philosophical disciplines, sometimes used as a synonym for natural theology. The legitimacy of this usage is disputed.
